Service Week

This week we are participating in service projects around Peoria. I looked for various ministries that I thought could use our help and contacted them. The Dream Center Peoria and Peoria Rescue Ministries answered my calls.

Monday we did some painting at the Dream Center. We painted railings, a bike rack, bookshelves, and some risers. It was great fun to chat with staff in an informal environment.
Today we sorted donations at the Peoria Rescue Ministries. They didn't have much for us to do so it only took a couple of hours. Then they fed us lunch, we cleaned up and reset the cafeteria and then took a tour of their facility. We ended our time there by gathering in prayer with a staff member at the mission.

Tomorrow we will be back at the Dream Center sorting donations there. I think these service projects were a great way to end the summer for some. On Friday about half of the staff will be done and will head home. Having the opportunity to serve the community where our kids live is so cool. We have the chance to make a difference in their neighborhood.
