Glorious Sabbath

Today was a day of rest for the summer staff and myself. We attended an all black church this morning that is a supporter of the camp and where a few of our campers attend. It was awesome to experience a different flavor of worship than we are typically used to but realizing that we are all part of the same body of Christ. It was a beautiful experience.

Afterwards, we had lunch at a nature center and then went hiking in the trails & hills around the area. We saw deer and a wild turkey. I enjoyed our time there. You are in the midst of a city but don't feel like it as you get to hike miles of trail through the woods and up & down hills. Then we headed down to the Illinois River to hang out. We played frisbee and watched boats. At 5pm we went to Old Chicago for dinner. I love their pizza!!!

To end the day, we attended Confession at my church. Confession is a young adult worship service that I find refreshing and encouraging to my faith. You are surrounded by 18 to 30-somethings all raising hands and praising God. We sing a lot and hear a message from the leader and then sing some more. We'll go back again in about 6 weeks once our urban camps are done.

All in all, we had a restful day. We focused in on our Savior, we fellowshipped with one another and we were refreshed in our spirits.
