Think about such things

Philippians 4:8
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

I've been meditating on this verse lately and it's causing me to take a good look at the things I fill my time with. For instance, television. Do the shows that I watch live up to the test found in this verse? By watching CSI or Grey's Anatomy or House or whatever it might be, am I enabling myself to think about what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, etc? It's tough to look at TV through the lens of Philippians 4:8. I don't find that much meaures up for me.

But TV is such an easy filler for the evening. I come home from work and I just want to sit in my big green oversized chair and kill brain cells (i.e. watch TV). There are so many other things I could do with my time - read, crochet, paint, make cards, scrapbook, listen to music, unpack, clean - and the list could go on! These things take a conscious effort to choose into rather than plopping myself down in front of the TV.

Tough ideas. Convicting thoughts. What now?

I like that verse because it is very freeing in principle. It lays out good things to think about without saying DON"T think about other stuff and ONLY think about this stuff.
